Checkmate.

I've been searching inside everyone I've met for many things.

in a friend, I expect so much.
in a stranger, I expect so little.

And sometimes it feels like I don't know what I'm doing , there's no guidance for that sort of thing.
Your parents teach you how to sit properly and talk nicely in public. School is supposed to teach you how to read and write. But nothing prepares you for what's going to happen next.

They don't tell you that real world isn't anything like the things you read about/heard from someone who heard it from someone else.

It's almost always "fate" when it happens to someone else, but when it happens to you it's not stories tied in a neat bow with some words of wisdom. it's real. And it fucking stings.

But it happens. Now I know that.

I was listening to Death Cab for Cutie's Marching Band of Manhatten today and it hit me: and it is true what you say that I live like a hermit in my own head, but when the sun shines again I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in.
hello there :)

I love Death Cab for Cutie!!

A Lack of Color is my favorite Death Cab for Cutie song--lyrically speaking of seeing things upside down.
(I've always described my vision as kaleidoscopic).

Truer words were never spoken. I have been struggling with this knowledge and the trying to find the right way to go. All I know is that there are no easy answers. All you can do when faced with this feeling is grab a cup of coffee, find a comfortable place to sit and talk to a friend.

or a blog works too!
Know you are not alone and smell the flowers every chance you get.

Yet sometimes they switch roles.

So much sense in your words.

Right. But coffee doesn't do the trick.

Welcome to real world!

Sandi
You just keep going, hoping you'll get there somehow.

Know what you need? Go make a life for yourself as wonderful as you could ever imagine it to be. The possibilities are endless! But it doesn't happen overnight. You just need to take one step at a time, and next thing you know, you won't be in that place of questioning/sulking/sucking back the coffee all the time because you'll be too busy doing. For yourself. Not for friends who can change as quickly as the wind blows. Just a thought....

True. We tend to expect more from those we know and trust and in return, expect just as much or even more from them. But I think that only depends on who matters more in your life that you would expect more from. Parents expect you to do as they say and in return, you expect THEM to listen to YOU. Yes, school doesn't exactly prepare you for the real world but the ones who should be guiding you through the real world are the ones who had brought you into this world.

Personally, I don't believe in "fate" because I think that it is only through your experiences that you would soon realise that things happen for a reason. And to me, some things happen because of the choices that we make and other times we may never understand why they happn but it is to help you grow. I remember a student asking a teacher this question: "So if I fail in school, I might fail in life. But what happens if you fail in life?" and my teacher didn't know the answer.
